Sports

I get into sports, especially football. I mean, I REALLY get into it. And by “getting into it”, I mean I yell at the tv. If my team is making a great play and running down the field, I shout “GO! GO! GO! GO!” If my team screws up or the opposing team makes a great play, I voice my displeasure rather loudly, sometimes expletives occasionally slip out. Ok, quite often expletives slip out. I might also use words like “crush”, “stomp”, or “kill”. LOL.

My husband is also a huge football fan. He hates it when I “get into” a game. He’s afraid that, with all that shouting, the neighbors will think he’s abusing me. LOL. He wishes I’d sit quietly and just watch the game. But what’s the point of sports if you don’t get into it emotionally, if you don’t invest yourself a little bit in the game? The answer… there is no point. Sports is about competition. No matter how much you try, it’s almost impossible to NOT get emotional about competition, whether you’re competing directly or choosing a side to root for.

So, what’s wrong with a little shouting? Well, if we’re talking about sports, the answer is… nothing. Why have spectators at all if they didn’t cheer for their team? Hearing the support of throngs of people can lift a team to victory. Cheering and shouting for a common cause brings people together.

My husband wants me to sit quietly and watch the Packers/Falcons playoff game. Will I? Hell no! I’m going to yell and shout for the Packers and maybe, just maybe, they’ll pull it out. I’ll be doing the same for my Seahawks and my hubby’s Jets tomorrow, too.
